Autism Friendly Club es una asociación sin ánimo de lucro que tiene como importante objetivo crear entornos accesibles para personas autistas y concienciar sobre sus necesidades.
Como asociación solidaria, Autism Friendly Club colabora y se relaciona con otras organizaciones solidarias, como con el Distrito 2201 de Rotary International, que ha asumido desde julio del 2024, a través de su Gobernador Luis Gómez-Ojero, el compromiso de fortalecer los lazos en la colaboración institucional, desarrollando, en común, la meta de la Diversidad, Equidad e Integración (DEI), aplicada a la transformación y mejora de vidas y colectivos, como la de los Autistas.
Rotary comparte la percepción con Autism Friendly de que hasta hace poco han sido las personas Autistas o con otras discapacidades las que han tenido que adaptarse al entorno y tratar de ser comprendidas por la Sociedad.
Ahora, en palabras de Luis Gómez-Ojero, “el desafío consiste en que sea la Sociedad y el entorno los que comprendan a las personas con Autismo, de manera que su percepción por la sociedad se “normalice”, obviando cualquier tipo de eventual “estigmatización” o “barrera”, de manera que el entorno social y cultural sea completamente comprensivo, hospitalario y amigable para ellos, favoreciendo la integración y felicidad de los Autistas, así como su involucración en todos los ámbitos sociales y profesionales de nuestra realidad”
Como explica Autism Friendly Club la adaptación del entorno es un desafío que se está empezando a desarrollar en ciudades como Madrid que, según afirma su representante, es “Una ciudad accesible para personas autistas”, de hecho Madrid dispone de una Oficina de Turismo con “apoyos visuales”, es decir, “con señalética con pictogramas para mejorar su comprensión” https://www.esmadrid.com/madrid-accesible
Por otra parte y además de lo anterior, Luis Gómez-Ojero valora muy positivamente el esfuerzo del Ayuntamiento de Madrid, pues “los trabajadores de información de la Oficina de Turismo de Madrid han recibido una formación específica en neurodiversidad y espectro autista que mejorará la calidad en la atención de personas neurodivergentes”
El Distrito Rotary 2201 concurrió a este concurso de Galardones gracias a la propuesta realizada por el Asesor de Relaciones Institucionales, Efrén Miranda, del Rotary Club Puerta del Sol, quien está realizando un magnífico trabajo desde el inicio del curso de este año Rotario 2024-25 y que ha sabido identificar esta necesidad y legítima expectativa social dentro de nuestras comunidades más cercanas y próximas.
En el acto de entrega de los galardones que se celebró el 26 de septiembre en el Centro Eduardo Úrculo de la capital con la asistencia de los galardonados, ROTARY tuvo el honor de recibir el “Premio al Voluntariado Institucional” del Autism Friendly Club, entregado al Gobernador Luis Gómez-Ojero quien, en representación de Rotary International en Madrid, tras unas palabras de agradecimiento por el Galardón y de reconocimiento por la gran labor de Autism Friendly Club, lo recibió de manos de su representante, Alberto Gutiérrez.
Al acto asistió una nutrida representación de Rotarios, entre los que se encuentran el AGD Javier Gorostizu, el Presidente del Rotary Club YE´S, Julio Gisells y otros miembros de los Rotary Club Corporate y Executive, algunos de los cuales pueden verse en la fotografía de grupo con todas las Instituciones galardonadas.

ROTARY INTERNATIONAL RECEIVES IN MADRID THE INSTITUTIONAL VOLUNTEERING AWARD GIVEN BY AUTISM FRIENDLY CLUB
Autism Friendly Club is a non-profit association whose important objective is to create accessible environments for autistic people and raise awareness about their needs.
As a solidarity association, Autism Friendly Club collaborates and relates to other solidarity organisations, such as District 2201 of Rotary International, which has assumed since July 2024, through its Governor Luis Gómez-Ojero, the commitment to strengthen ties in institutional collaboration, developing, in common, the goal of Diversity, Equity and Integration (DEI), applied to the transformation and improvement of lives and groups, such as that of the Autists.
Rotary shares the perception with Autism Friendly that until recently it has been autistic people or people with other disabilities who have had to adapt to the environment and try to be understood by Society.
Now, in the words of Luis Gómez-Ojero, «the challenge is that it is the Society and the environment that understand people with Autism, so that their perception of society is «normalized», obviating any type of possible «stigmatization» or «barrier», so that the social and cultural environment is completely comprehensive, hospitable and friendly for them, favouring the integration and happiness of the Autists, as well as their involvement in all social and professional areas of our reality»
As Autism Friendly Club explains, the adaptation of the environment is a challenge that is beginning to develop in cities like Madrid which, according to its representative, is «An accessible city for autistic people», in fact Madrid has a Tourist Office with «visual support», that is, «with signage with pictograms to improve their understanding» https://www.esmadrid.com/madrid-accesible
On the other hand and in addition to the above, Luis Gómez-Ojero values very positively the effort of the Madrid City Council, since «the information workers of the Madrid Tourist Office have received specific training in neurodiversity and autistic spectrum that will improve the quality of care for neurodivergent people»
Rotary District 2201 participated in this awards contest thanks to the proposal made by the Institutional Relations Advisor, Efrén Miranda, of the Rotary Club Puerta del Sol, who has been doing a magnificent job since the beginning of this year’s Rotary 2024-25 course and who has been able to identify this need and legitimate social expectation within our closest and closest communities.
At the awards ceremony held on September 26 at the Eduardo Úrculo Centre in the capital with the assistance of the winners, ROTARY had the honour of receiving the «Institutional Volunteer Award» from the Autism Friendly Club, delivered to Governor Luis Gómez-Ojero who, representing Rotary International in Madrid, after a few words of gratitude for the Award and recognition for the great work of Autism Friendly Club, received it from the hands of its representative, Alberto Gutiérrez.
The event was attended by a large representation of Rotarians, including the AGD Javier Gorostizu, the President of the Rotary Club YE´S, Julio Gisells and other members of the Rotary Club Corporate and Executive, some of which can be seen in the group photograph with all the award-winning institutions.
